Members of the CAC draw on their passion for healthcare as well as their individual experience and knowledge to advocate to the board on behalf of the community. The CAC acts as a manifestation of the West Gippsland Healthcare Group’s value of consumer participation as an ethical right.
Responsibilities of members include participating in monthly meetings, contributing to the healthcare services’ plans, evaluating results of surveys, and reviewing publications and written health material produced by the health service. Special tasks and projects have included in-depth reviews of the Victorian Patient Satisfaction Monitor Surveys, during which the suggestions and needs of the community were recognized and plans of action developed to improve the healthcare experience of community members.
