WGHG is close to reaching its target of $80,000 to purchase much needed medical equipment for its hospital and aged care residences.

The campaign has raised $78,000 in just five weeks to fund equipment for the hospital’s Surgical and Paediatrics units, as well as Andrews House and Cooinda Aged Care residences.

WGHG Board Chair, Jane Leslie, praised the community for the generous support.

“The community has opened their hearts and their wallets to support the West Gippsland Healthcare Group which is humbling and inspiring.”

“We received donations from individuals, families, former patients, staff, physicians, clubs, businesses, age care residents and more.”

“The Appeal is a first for WGHG where we identified a number of pieces of medical equipment needed and provided options for people to donate to each item. We are delighted with the result which will enable us to purchase all of our wish list.”

Donations will be used to purchase equipment including an Operating Theatre Video Laryngoscope, 12 low level floor beds for Cooinda Lodge Aged Care, 4 air mattresses for Andrews House and Cooinda Lodge Aged Care and a Phototherapy Unit for the Paediatrics Unit to treat jaundice in new born babies.

Director of Clinical Operations, Nursing and Midwifery, Kathy Kinrade, said the Appeal was a major boost in extending and upgrading equipment to benefit patient care and comfort.

“It also serves as a tremendous morale boost for our healthcare teams who work at the front line every day to deliver quality healthcare services to people of all ages in our community.”

Chief Executive Officer Dan Weeks said people could be assured that 100% of their donation to the West Gippsland Healthcare Group goes directly to the Equipment Appeal.
